Unique Tattoo Designs

By Rock Browny

Everyone likes to be special. When you choose your tattoos, whether it be the first or a continuation of many, you'll want it to be as unique as possible.

Are there any unique tattoo designs? Or has everything possible already been drawn. Is the tattoo your having inked into your body simply one of thousands already in circulation?

Quite possibly yes, your tattoo is featured on someone else's body somewhere in the world. If you've chosen your design from the flash drawings featured on the walls and poster boards of your local tattoo studio, then you can bet your bottom dollar that the tattoo artist has inked that same design on someone else, somewhere local to you.

Some tattoo collectors are happy with that. They see the design that they like and have it tattooed, regardless of how generic it is. Certain designs will always be popular. Anchors, daggers, devils, skulls, dragons, eagles, the list goes on. These tattoos have existed for many years and future generations will still be getting these flash design tattoos in years to come.

If you want unique tattoo designs, you are going to have to put some work in. You will need to plan carefully and possible get the pencils out and start some rudimentary sketches of your own.

It might be that you are planning a memorial tattoo or some other design with meaning. This is already a unique tattoo design but most people refuse to put the extra leg work in. They simply pick a flash design of the wall and have their loved ones name written in a scroll underneath. It's a shame as a tattoo of this importance can be made so much more unique by having a one off design created.

By making some rough sketches your can approach your artist and at least be able to give them an idea to work from. They can then add their own suggestions and bring the sketch up to an acceptable standard.

If your going down this route, why not have a think about who the tattoo is celebrating. If it's your children, what are their favourite things in life? If you're remembering a parent, what was their occupation? What is your loved one's favourite animal? There are lots of directions to go in.

Script can then be added to identify the person but its doesn't have to be in English. Try looking at different languages or symbols, what about Egyptian Hieroglyphics for example. The possibilities are endless.

Your tattoo is likely to be with you for the rest of your life. Invest in yourself and take some time to really come up with a unique tattoo design, rather than just settling for any old flash on the tattoo wall.

Are you struggling to decide what tattoo to get? Or whether to get one at all?

I have collected many tattoos over the years and would like to help you with the benefits of my experience.

The Art Of Tattooing In Ancient Egypt

By Kum Martin

Man had been marking his body for thousands of years. These markings could be elaborate or plain and were used to show their status in the society or tribe, as amulets, highlight religious beliefs, as a form of punishment, or as declarations of love. The first evidence of tattoos was found on many female mummies from ancient Egypt. The mummies dated back to 2000 BC. Even an iceman recovered from the Italian Austrian border in 1991 had tattoos on his body. On carbon dating the iceman, archaeologists found that the remains were about 5,200 years old.

In archaeological excavations, ancient tattooing tools have been found from the town of Gurob in northern Egypt. These tools were used around 1450 BC. The tools were made from bronze. Initially, the archaeologists assumed that the just females of dubious character were tattooed in ancient Egypt. However, the female mummies with tattoos were found at Deir el-Bahari, the site where royals and other important people were buried. And, of the female mummies was identified as Amunet based on the inscriptions and she was a high priestess in ancient Egypt.

For a long time, people thought that in the ancient times just prostitutes were tattooed, but this not true. According to Smithsonian magazine, women in ancient Egypt were tattooed, so that they would have a permanent amulet that would protect them during their pregnancy and subsequent birth. These tattoos were found around the stomach, on the upper parts of the thighs, and on the breasts. They were in the form of dots, distributed in a net-like manner. The fact that the mummies were found with figures of Bes, the household deity during ancient Egypt, convinced the archaeologists that this was a female custom during those times.

Although there is no written evidence about who made the tattoos in ancient Egypt, it is believed that the older women from the community were responsible for tattooing the younger women, similar to how it was done in Egypt during the 19th century. The tattoos were made using tools that had sharp points with wooden handles. One such tool was discovered in Abydos as well as Gurob by an archaeologist named W.M.F. Petrie and he dated the tool back to 3000 BC. The tool was made from bronze and looked very similar to a flat and wide needle. Most probably a bunch of the needles were used to make several dots on the body.

It may be interesting to note that these ancient tools used for tattooing were very similar in appearance to the tattoo tools used in Egypt during the 19th century. An English writer named William Lane described the way tattooing was done in ancient Egypt. He claimed that around seven needles were tied together for pricking the skin. Black wood or oil smoke was mixed with the woman's breast milk and then rubbed into the patterns that were pricked. The gypsy women were responsible for tattooing and the girls between the ages of 5 and 6 were tattooed. The patterns were diamond shaped or lines made up of dots.

Gallery Of Tattoos

By Rock Browny

So, you're considering getting a tattoo. As this artwork will be staying with you throughout the rest of your journey through life, it is important to thoroughly plan what you're after.

But where do you find the designs?

Well, if you don't already have an idea of what type of tattoo to get, or maybe you have a general idea but aren't sure of the specific details, you could do with viewing a tattoo gallery.

Tattoo studios have thousands of designs on their walls and in booklets in the waiting rooms showing what is referred to as "flash designs". This is a term used for a previously created drawing which can be used over and over again by the artist. Colouring and further detail are added as per the customers requirements. The "flash" is basically just the outline.

Visit your local tattoo studio and you will probably be overwhelmed by the size of gallery on offer. Many artists also contain photographic examples of the completed tattoos in order to show you the possibilities a flash design can become.

If you still cannot find the ideal design in a studio, try visiting the tattoo artist's website. Many are now online and most will have posted a gallery of tattoos they have created. Some of these may be exclusive to the website, so it's best to have a look.

Still can't find it? The internet is probably your answer. We now have the opportunity to view thousands upon thousands of designs with our fingertips from the comfort of our own homes.

If you want to look at free designs, try Google images. Type in what sort of style of tattoo you're interested in and you could get lucky there.

Alternatively, visit the gallery of tattoos online that require membership fees, but as a non paying visitor. You should find that you're able to look at most of the designs for nothing, but you may not have the ability to print them off. At least it will give you some inspiration.

If you pay for membership of a tattoo gallery you will find yourself receiving additional benefits that the visitors do not see. You will have deeper access to the design vault, the ability to print the designs off, and more often than not freebies in the form of ebooks with further ideas/designs.

Online technology is moving rapidly now and I have even seen sites that allow you to place the design on a downloaded picture of your body! This is ideal for body placement planning and should not be overlooked should you choose to go the online way.

Are you struggling to decide what tattoo to get? Or whether to get one at all?

I have collected many tattoos over the years and would like to help you with the benefits of my experience.
